Cow in court...well not exactly. The cow was missing after being sold, mortgaged, sold again, returned to the original owner and generally being looked for by a number of people, including the court. Presumably she was laying low.

Ozarks racing legend Larry Phillips won hundreds of races in a forty year career. Phillips is the only five time national short track champion and was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. A biography of Larry Phillips will be released this month.

Girl Scout and Brownies cookie sales are covered in a 1952
Bias magazine article. Money raised was used for the girls' summer camping program, with special emphasis on acquiring a camp site near Springfield.

After a fire at the News-Leader in 1947 the Springfield Public Library took steps to insure that the only existing consecutive files of the newspapers were not at risk.

A photograph of a fire that threatened the Colonial Hotel and virtually destroyed the building at McDaniel and Jefferson Streets in 1951. The building housed the Pineboard Drug Store and Lines Music Company.
