Libraries Accepting Donated Books for Fall Sale

Ever wonder where the Library District gets those three tractor-trailer loads of books, CDs, DVDs and other materials that are sold at the fall and spring Friends of the Library book sales?

They come from patron and office donations – items not sold at garage sales, books stored in attics, old record, CD and DVD collections that they’re ready to replace.

Donations are accepted at all of the 10 library branches in the Springfield-Greene County Library District. You can bring them in the front door or call ahead at the most convenient branch.

The huge Fall Book Sale sponsored by the Friends of the Library is planned October 19-24 at Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road in Springfield.

If you are one of those people who has a box of books, CDs, records, DVDs tucked out of sight, if you’re downsizing or just cleaning house, consider donating them for the Fall Book Sale. We’ll provide a receipt.

The Friends of the Library book sale is one of the best and biggest community “recycling” projects around. Donate some books, and buy some new-to-you books at bargain prices during the fall sale.

You’re helping the Library patrons like yourself, too. Proceeds from the Friends sales benefit the district’s 10 branches and bookmobile.

Vickie Hicks is community relations director for the Springfield-Greene County Library District. She can be reached at vickieh@thelibrary.org.
