Genealogy the Non-Traditional Way

Most experienced genealogists have spent years, even decades traveling to archives, courthouses, regional libraries and etc. No matter how much time is devoted to genealogical pursuits there is rarely enough time to find all of the records or to contact all of the relatives we would like.

Danielle Murray took a new approach when she decided to research her Murray family. Danielle anticipated years of research to complete her line, however, in "The new face of genealogy" author Danielle Murray outlines how she used Facebook to connect with her family.

Danielle states: "Within a month, I had connected with 50 first and second cousins. By year's end, another family tree, this time the 178 direct descendants of my paternal grandfather and his four siblings, had been charted".

Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter  can all aid in connecting with close and distant cousins.

Contact your local Springfield-Greene County Library for help using social networking sites in your genealogical research.
