Tour of Missouri’s Civil War Author to Visit Library Center November 10

Just in time to plan your travels during the Civil War sesquicentennial, Greg Wolk will visit the Library Center 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, to talk about sites to discover in his new book, “Friend and Foe Alike, A Tour Guide to Missouri’s Civil War.”

The book is a comprehensive tour guide that takes Civil War buffs around Missouri to visit battlefields and learn about the skirmishes and battles fought there. It features detailed maps and features about the history of each site, and takes the reader/traveler on tour loops across the state with easy-to-follow directions and exact mileage from site to site.

Wolk is a St. Louis lawyer and president of Missouri’s Civil War Heritage Foundation. He will also have copies of his book available to sell and autograph.

Stuart Symington, Jr., who wrote the foreword, says, “What sets this tour guide apart, and puts it in a class with Baedeker and Michelin, are its meticulous driving instructions and the thoroughness of the attention . . . it gives to some 235 historic sites with Civil War associations.”

Vickie Hicks is community relations director for the Springfield-Greene County Library District. She can be reached at vickieh@thelibrary.org.
