Look to Library for Gifts that Keep Giving

Many of us are looking for small holiday gifts with a big mission. The Springfield-Greene County Library has a variety of gift possibilities that give back multiple ways.

A non-Greene County resident can enjoy all the library’s services with an out-of-county resident library card. Many library services are free, but non-Greene County families also buy a card so they can check out books, movies and music; download more than 6,000 titles, research online databases and access the Internet on public computers.

The $50 card entitles a family in the same household to all library privileges for one year. The cards are available at any branch checkout desk, and come with a gift card. (The $50 fee is the average amount a Greene Countian pays in property taxes to support the library district.)

Find an affordable gift for a new baby, a book lover, children, teens and adults at the Between Friends gift shops at the Library Center and Library Station. You pay no sales tax, and proceeds benefit the library district – you and your community.

In the store now: Themed Christmas ornaments for all hobbyists, locally made sterling silver jewelry, paintings and photography, scrimshaw key chains and pins from shed antlers, journals, bookends, toys and puzzles, home décor, books, CDs and DVDs.

Buy a book for the library in someone’s name from the Gift Book Tree or Wreath. Through Dec. 23 when you donate $5 to $20 for a children’s book pictured on the ornaments, that book will go into the library’s collection and your loved one’s name will go on the ornament.

Honor or memorialize a special person with a library bookplate to be placed in a book genre of your choice, or a “leaf” on the donor tree at a library branch. With a tribute gift to the Library Foundation, we will send an acknowledgement card to the honoree or family.

With a “named endowment,” you can offer a lasting tribute to someone special while helping to secure the library’s future. It can be established with a minimum gift of $10,000 and can be designated for the library program or branch of your choice. For details about making a gift to benefit the library, call Library Foundation Director Michelle Creed at 616-0586.
