Confused about credit? Saving to buy your first car, or a first home? Wondering what to do with that 401(k) account? Find out the answers to these questions and more at Springfield’s first Money Smart Week @ your library.
Money Smart Week @ your library will be hosted by the Springfield-Greene County Library District from April 2-9, 2011. Nearly 30 classes, workshops and activities will take place at various Library branches during the week to help consumers with all aspects personal finance. All programs are open to the public and free of charge, thanks to collaboration with partners from local financial institutions, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Personal finance is a broad topic that truly is of interest to all. Topics presented at this year’s Money Smart Week include credit basics, budgeting, buying a home for the first time, mortgages, using coupons wisely, identity theft protection, getting your credit score, estate planning and life insurance.
Even kids benefit from learning about money management. Kids can attend a money-themed storytime and go shopping with “bunny money”. “Tween”-agers can watch their money grow fast by feeding a piggy bank. Teens can learn banking skills and how to start saving for a car or college. There’s even a program tailored to 20 - and 30 - somethings with tips on credit, budgeting and more.
Money Smart Week is a national public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. It is a partnership of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the American Library Association and the Springfield-Greene County Library District.
The week-long event kicks off Saturday, April 2, with 9 programs at 3 of the Library locations.
