Family Search Continues to Grow

Family Search remains one of the most dynamic genealogy websites. At last count there were at least 670 digitized collections of databases and 77 of these were either added or updated in June.

Many of the collections are indexed allowing the researcher to locate records in locations not previously  searched. The source microfilm can then be ordered from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Other databases allow page by page browsing of the digitized microfilmed records, which allows the researcher to view, copy, or print the documents located.

A blog at Family Search offers details information on researching in other countries or in utilizing less well known sources. Recent blog articles focus on Norwegian confirmation records, Irish probate records, and Venetian ancestral research.

The family search site includes a learning resources page with a link to a research wiki containing 60,000 articles. Online research courses on this same page are offered by individual specialists and staff of organizations such as the Midwest Genealogy Center .

Your local Springfield-Greene County Library can assist you in your genealogical research.
