5-Second Book Reviews

I know that summer is a busy time for everyone, but it's also the perfect time to sit back, soak up some sun, and read.  But since there isn't that much summer left, I thought I'd post some 5-second book reviews to give you an idea of what we've got on the shelves and what's coming out soon.

On the shelves now...

Ten Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn't Have), by Sarah Mlynowski. Somehow April convinces her parents that she can stay with her friend, Vi, and Vi's mom while her dad and step-mom move to Ohio. Except Vi's mom will be with a touring theatre group.  And there is no adult supervision.  April and Vi do some pretty crazy things, and April finds out more about herself than she ever thought she would.

Hate List, by Jennifer Brown.    After her boyfriend shoots and kills several classmates and teachers in a school shooting, Valerie doesn't know whether she is a victim or a villian.  She did have a hand in writing the list, but she always thought that Nick's talks of suicide and punishing the people that hurt them so bad was just that: talk.  This story is one of the best I've read all year.  Gateway Nominee 2011/2012

Don't Stop Now, by Julie Halpern  Lil and Josh have just graduated from high school and have their whole lives ahead of them.  Except their friend Penny fakes her own kidnapping and the FBI gets involved and Lil just happens to be the last person Penny talked to (and left a cryptic voicemail).  That leaves the pair travelling across the country to find Penny and see where the road takes them.

Coming soon...

Lola and the Boy Next Door, by Stephanie Perkins (September 29, 2011) Lola lives in San Francisco with her two dads, her dog, her wonderful boyfriend, an awesome job at a movie theater, and the memory of something horrible that happened with the next-door neighbors. All in all life is pretty perfect - until the neighbors come back. Lola's world (and heart) start to rocket around like a roller coaster as she figures out who she is and who she wants to be with. This is the companion novel to Anna and the French Kiss.

Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick, by Joe Schreiber (October 25, 2011)  All Perry wants is to play an awesome gig in city, but his parents are making him take their nerdy Lithuanian exchange student to prom.  But it turns out she's definitely not an exchange student (how about deadly assassin) and they are so far from prom (out to take down 5 targets in one night)...

The Future of Us, by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler (November 21, 2011) It's 1996 and Emma just got her first computer. Her neighbor, Josh, brings over an AOL CD-ROM and they download it and log on, only to find a mysterious website called Facebook, where they are able to see themselves - 15 years in the future.
