Make Plans to Attend Missouri Literary Festival Sept. 23-25
If you love to meet authors and anything related to the Civil War, you won’t want to miss any of the events during the 2011 Missouri Literary Festival: The Civil War, Sept. 23-25 at the Creamery Arts Center in downtown Springfield.
The library is partnering with others in staging this special Civil War Sesquicentennial event. The festival is a project of the Springfield Regional Arts Council.
Events run 10 a.m.- 8:30 p.m. Sept. 23; 9 a.m.- 10 p.m. Sept. 24; and noon- 5 p.m. Sept. 25. Admission for the weekend is $5; free for children age 10 and under.
Buy festival tickets at the Creamery, 411 N. Sherman Parkway, and at all branches of the library district.
The festival includes national and regional authors and historians, children’s writers, music, storytelling, poetry and art activities for kids. Experience cannon and musket firings, learn about Civil War medicine and soldier life.
Featured authors include Jeff Shaara, of “Gods and Generals;” historian William C. Davis, of “The Battle of Bull Run;” Janis Cooke Newman, of “Mary: Mrs. A. Lincoln;” Adam I. Arenson, of “The Great Heart of the Republic: St. Louis and the Cultural Civil War;” David Wilson Atwood, “Where The Mockingbird Sang – A Novel of the Civil War;” Randall Fuller, “From Battlefields Rising: How the Civil War Transformed American Literature;” William Garrett Piston, “Wilson’s Creek: The Second Battle of the Civil War and the Men Who Fought It;” Steve Yates, “Morkan’s Quarry;” Chris Stuckenschneider, “Twist of Fate;” storyteller Chris Sutton, and more.

- High Tea with Janis Cooke Newman, author of "Mary: Mrs. A. Lincoln," at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Creamery, $25. Tickets are limited.
- Blue & Gray Meet The Authors Gala, 7-10 p.m. Sept. 24, Creamery Exhibition Hall, $50. Meet festival authors, enjoy a buffet dinner, hear Marideth Sisco and Blackberry Winter, and an auction of Obelisk Home sculptures.
