Giant Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Runs October 18-23; Friends Night Preview Sale Oct. 17
Think you can’t find love and adventure at a used book sale?
You can – at the Friends of the Library annual Fall Book Sale, which runs Tuesday, Oct. 18, through Sunday, Oct. 23, at Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road.
Yes, this is the big one, along with the Friends’ annual Spring Book Sale. You’ll find books and textbooks, music, movies and more in every genre from romance to fantasy, adventure to self-help, health to history, and for every age group.
Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 through Friday, Oct. 21; then 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23. The Friends Night Preview Sale is 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17. Friends members should make sure their dues are paid in advance if they attend the Preview Sale.
The Friends of the Library volunteers collect books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and more that patrons donate and that the library district weeds out through the year. The volunteers sort and mark everything at bargain-basement prices, then truck them to Remington’s for the week-long sale. They typically have three tractor-trailer loads of great reads, music and movies that fill Remington’s.
The prices are perfect for collectors, families and bargain hunters: Children’s books are priced 50 cents or less, adult and young adult books are $1 or less, most audiovisual materials are $1, and better books are individually priced.
Are you a record lover or know someone who is? Unlike many sales in the past, this one features hundreds of 78 rpm and 45 rpm records – that’s vinyl! The record collection includes many of the classics – symphonies, musicals and old-time favorites.
With the tight economy and everyone watching their pennies, why buy new when you can get like-new at a fraction of the cost?
Book sale proceeds go to support the many programs, services and building improvements in the library branches that customers enjoy – so buyers are getting double benefit from what they purchase items. Proceeds from past book sales purchased the new Mobile Library, the bookmobile that delivers books and other materials to Springfield-area neighborhoods.
