Take Advantage Book Bargains, Drama Performances and Census Workshop This Week
Sunday, October 23, is the last day of the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale, and you won’t want to miss this. It’s Bag Day.
Shoppers pay only $1 for everything from the general selection that they can cram into a bag. They pay only $5 for everything from the “better books” section that they can fit in a bag.
Hours are 1-5 p.m. at Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road, and then it’s over until the Friends Spring Book Sale April 24-29, 2012. But don’t wait for spring. You’ll want to stock up on some good reads, movies and music to carry you through an Ozarks winter.
Everyone in the library district extends a big “Thank you” to all the people who shopped the Friends book sale this week. You can feel good knowing that you have participated in one of the region’s biggest recycling projects, and proceeds from the sale fund the many library services and programs every month.

Join others this week for “Ancient Greeks, Modern Lives,” when visiting actors from Aquila Theatre will present programs aimed at inspiring interest in Greek Drama and showing how it continues to influence American cultural life.
At 2 p.m. Monday, October 24, at the Brentwood Branch, actors will present a participatory class for college-age students and adults that explores classical theater through masks, movement and performance. No experience necessary!
At 7 p.m. Monday at the Park Central Branch, actors will perform a staged reading of scenes from Greek drama, followed by a town hall-style discussion with Edwin Carawan, Missouri State University professor of modern and classical languages. It’s open to the public.
Both are funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Aquila Theatre is also appearing for student and public audiences Monday and Tuesday at Hammons Hall on the MSU campus. For details call 836-5711.
