Kids Can Join Shopping Fun at Holiday Store

Do you know a toddler, child or teen who wants to get in on the holiday shopping fun? Head to the annual, kids-only Holiday Store at the Library Center and Library Station beginning Saturday, Nov. 26. It’s sponsored by the Library’s Between Friends Gift Shops.

The stores feature a variety of gifts for family, friends and teachers, including those hard-to-buy-for dads, brothers and uncles. And the prices are kid-friendly – 25 cents to $8. There are book lights, flashlights, sports frames, pocket planners, 3D puzzles, bath and body lotions, photo albums, puzzles, toys, ornaments for moms, dads and teachers, windup toys and more.

Friends of the Library volunteers will help young shoppers choose just-right gifts while staying within their budgets and help them wrap gifts for free.

Opening day at both branches begins with the Holiday Open House, featuring a life-size Candyland setting with games for kids, crafts, treats and photographs with Santa Claus.

The Holiday Open House and Holiday Store schedule:

Library Center – Holiday Open House, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday; Holiday Store runs 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Nov. 26; 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Nov. 28-Dec. 3; and 1-4 p.m. Nov. 27 and Dec. 4.

Library Station – Holiday Open House, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 3. The Holiday Store runs the same day only, Dec., 3, from 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

Kids can feel doubly good when they shop at the Holiday Store. Proceeds from the sales fund the Library’s annual summer reading program, which involved 12,898 young readers last summer.

According to shops Manager Shelli Kaminski, 60 cents of every $1 in sales helps pay for the musicians, magicians and storytellers who entertain kids through the summer in the library branches. For more information about the Holiday Store, call the Between Friends Gift Shops at 883-6936.
