Historic 1872 Springfield Map Makes Choice Holiday Gift for Historian, Teachers

Looking for a unique gift for the historian, teacher or map collector in your life?

Consider a color reproduction of an 1872 bird’s-eye view map of Springfield, originally drawn seven years after the Civil War by artist Eli Sheldon Glover. The map captures familiar street names and landmarks, horses and carriages on the Square, barns, churches and homes. The original map hangs in the Local History & Genealogy Department of the Library Center.

The frame-ready maps measure 24 by 32 ½ inches, and they are printed on sturdy paper with a border. Cost is $15, and all proceeds go to fund collections and services of the Local History & Genealogy Department.

Maps are available at the checkout desks of all 10 branches of the Springfield-Greene County Library District, and may be purchased with cash or checks with proper ID made out to The Library Foundation, Local History & Genealogy Fund.
