Flax
Weekly North West Conservator, Richmond, Mo. (Ray County), March 19, 1863, page 3.
Raise Flax—We hope that each of our farmer friends will cultivate and prepare, during the coming season, a crop of flax. The scarcity of cotton should admonish all to heed this suggestion. An acre of good land will yield about ten bushels of seed and from one to two tons of straw. The seed is worth about $3.20 per bushel. The land should be prepared to same as for oats, and the seed should be sown about the 1st of April.
