Tourist Camp Popular
Twenty-four States represented by people registered there in August

"Springfield’s free Tourist Camp Grounds, located in Long’s Park at the immediate rear [East] of the Federal building on Boonville Ave., in the heart of the city (and almost universally conceded by those who use it to be the best located, most thoroughly and modernly improved, attractive and pleasant tourist camp grounds in all the country) has been open and available for use only a few months but is already very popular with a large number of high class people who are using it.

Deaton’s report for the month of August shows that 3,587 persons representing 24 states registered there and that among them 54 families were so well pleased with Springfield they decided to permanently locate here and that several Iowa and Nebraska families among those tourists have already bought homes here.

"The Chamber of Commerce was largely instrumental in establishing Springfield’s Free Tourist Camp and is justly proud of the result."
