Enjoy Ozark Folk Songs and Get Tax Help at the Library

How about some Ozarks folk songs on a brisk winter afternoon?

Judy Domeny Bowen is back with us for a free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, in the Library Center auditorium to perform a mix of songs from the past. Calling on her Ozarks farm roots, Judy will perform little-heard storytelling ballads and well-known folk songs from the Ozarks.

Her concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, and is one of the many public programs funded with proceeds from the Friends book sales. (The spring sale is April 24-29.)

The Library will again join other agencies beginning this month to provide sites for free Tax Counseling for the Elderly and free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance.

You can find a full schedule of sessions at http://thelibrary.org/taxes, under No. 9, “Where can I obtain help in preparing my taxes?” The site also lists documents and identification required for the tax help. That site also lists where you can get tax forms.

Tax Counseling for the Elderly provides free tax preparation assistance by IRS-trained volunteers through the Southwest Missouri Office on Aging. They prepare federal and state tax returns and Missouri property tax credit forms.

The Willard Branch Library is the only library site among the community groups providing Tax Counseling for the Elderly. Sessions are 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays, from Feb. 8-April 11. For information call 862-0762.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance provides tax preparation help for federal tax returns and Earned Income Credit, Missouri Property Tax Credit and other tax forms. Missouri State and Drury university students working with the ATLS coalition provide assistance with Missouri tax returns if the federal return is being prepared. Priority is given to older adults and low-to-moderate income families and individuals.
