Free Credit Report, Document Shredding, Money Smart Kids and More
Money Smart Week @ Your Library kicks off Saturday, April 21, with several fun, hands-on workshops to help you learn more about managing your money.
First, the program Free Credit Report/Credit Improvement (at the Library Center from 10 a.m. - noon) will guide you through the process of getting your credit report online free of charge. Nickie Bland, Steven Clark, Cari Oughton and Casey Pyle from BancorpSouth will provide information on obtaining and understanding your credit report, correcting errors on your report, as well as tips to put you in the best financial position possible. Krissy Sinor of The EDGE Community Technology Center will also be on hand, providing laptops and technical assistance for participants to obtain and print their credit report.
Shredding personal documents is a money smart tip to help you avoid identity theft. Document management service company EDCO Group, Inc., hosts Document Disposal Weekend. The company is providing locked boxes available all weekend on the Library Center concourse. Drop off your sensitive documents for shredding at their centralized facility.
The following two programs will also take place Saturday at the Strafford Branch Library, both presented by Heim, Young and Associates:
- How to Raise a Money-Smart Child, 9:30 a.m. for adults. Parents will take home lots of tips and techniques for talking with their children and grandchildren about money.
- Roll It, Take It, Leave It: Learn the Basics of Retirement Plans, 10:30 a.m. for adults. It’s never too early to plan. Learn about the types of retirement plans, saving for retirement and options for making changes to those plans.
The money-smart programs continue all week long. Click here for the complete schedule (PDF download).
