Book Sale Receives Great Community Support; E-Reader Training and Job Fair Coming Up

The Friends of the Library have been overwhelmed with support from bargain hunters at the big Friends Spring Book Sale, which wraps up Sunday, April 29.

The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday at Remington’s 1655 W. Republic Road.

Sunday is Bag Day, when you pay only $1 for everything you can stuff in a bag – or $5 for anything from the “Better Books” section that you can stuff in a bag. Wonder if that signed copy of the Amy Tan and Alan Alda books are still there……

People began lining up outside the doors of Remington’s hours before the April 23 Friends Night Preview Sale, and the line snaked around the building and out to the street before the doors opened at 5 p.m.

Every day since then, the supply of books, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks and more have been plentiful and the crowds have been steady. The sale could not be possible without the work all year by hundreds of Friends of the Library members, and without the generous support of people throughout the Ozarks who visit the sale each year.

We like to remind people that the proceeds from the sale go to the programs and services of the Springfield-Greene County Library District. It buys books for preschoolers, pays for cultural and music performances at the various branches, and last year purchased the Mobile Library to deliver materials to more than 18,000 library card holders in underserved areas.

And if you didn’t get your fill of books this time, save this date: The Friends Fall Book Sale is Oct. 23-28 at Remington’s. The Friends Night Preview Sale is Oct. 22.
