Friends Sale Breaks Record; Geezerfest May 19
If someone tries to tell you that no one reads print books anymore, don’t buy it.
The Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale April 23-29 proved that. Ozarks residents bought $121,522.85 – nearly four tractor-trailer loads – in books as well as CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes and other bargain-priced entertainment.
Yes, we’re still reeling from that record-high sales number. That figure breaks the previous sales record of $108,379.38 set with the 2010 Friends Fall Book Sale.
We have many volunteers and businesses to thank, but especially thank the many Friends volunteers who helped make it happen. Friends of the Library volunteer Ed Griesbaum said the total volunteer hours for the book sale was 3,774 hours.
After their expenses, the Friends use the book sale proceeds to provide grants to the Library for music and cultural programs, books for preschoolers and other Library needs.
Library Executive Director Regina Cooper said that at Library Big Read event last week, “the audience burst into spontaneous applause when the chair of the book sale, Pat Myers, was introduced. I heartily concur. Our Friends are the best.”

Project director Brian Grubbs recently received a Missouri Humanities Award for Distinguished Achievement in Literature for 2011 from the Missouri Humanities Council for the site. You can select each event, which will pull up more information and an image that represents what took place. It’s a treasure box of facts, artifacts, maps and photos.

Attention all Geezer-heads out there, save the date! The local rock group Geezer returns for its annual outdoor spring concert on the Library Center patio at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 19.
