Homework Help from the Library

Need homework help you can rely on? The Library has a wide range of resources to help all ages of students with their research for daily assignments or long-term projects.

Library databases are well suited for homework assignments, because they are collections of information organized to make your research easier and the information they contain has already been reviewed for accuracy. Read the Enoch Pratt Free Library's article about databases to learn more about why to use the Library databases instead of just searching the web.

The Library offers several databases that can be accessed from any Internet accessible computer with a valid Springfield-Greene County Library card.

  • For kids -- You can find databases specifically for elementary-aged children on the Kids website. Resources cover a wide variety of topics and are developed with student grade level in mind.
  • For teens -- the Teen website features resources like for older students who need help with history, literature and geography assignments and projects.
  • For all ages -- Both general and subject specific databases are listed on the Library's Research pages and are great for a wide variety of research topics. Access a business encyclopedia online using Gale Virtual Reference Library*, find multimedia biographical material with Biography in Context*, or even learn a foreign language with the help of Mango Languages*. Poetry, literature, history, sign language, and even test preparation are all available to you.

Library Programs

The Library offers several programs that have educational value for students.  Storytimes are regularly offered for children at all library branches, in addition to programs concerning science, history, literature, art and culture. View the Library's program schedule online or pick up a print copy, "Bookends," at your nearest branch.  All Library programs are free; however some programs do require registration.

Additional Library Resources

  • Local History Department -- The Library's Local History Department is located inside the Library Center. Local History staff are able to aid students with research regarding Missouri and the Ozarks region.  In addition, a special collection of print resources tailored to our region's history are housed here.
  • Study and Meeting Rooms -- Many library locations offer meeting spaces for non-profit purposes. These range in size from one-person private study rooms to large-group spaces. These spaces are great for quiet study, tutoring and educational programs.
  • Test Proctoring -- The Library offers proctoring services for students at several locations for a small fee.
  • Public Computers -- All Library locations offer computers for public use. Library cardholders may use library computers for a total of two hours every day. Non-cardholders may choose to purchase a day pass for $1. Printing is available from Library computers for a per-page charge.
  • Wi-Fi Wireless -- All Library branches offer free wireless Internet access.
  • Library Staff -- Library staff are trained to assist in conducting research. We are here to help with your information needs. Questions may also be submitted from home using the Ask a Librarian service, linked from
