Grab Some Great Bargains at the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Oct. 23-28
Where else but the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Oct. 23-28 will you find a variety like this?
• A 1972 Cosmopolitan magazine featuring the first male centerfold – Burt Reynolds
• Julia Childs cookbooks
• German-language children’s and adult fiction
• St. Louis Cardinals memorabilia books
• children’s pop-up books, games and puzzles
• The book of Morman World Records
• Five sets of encyclopedias, foreign-language instruction software, mountains of vinyl records, boxes of CDs and DVDs and a healthy helping of audiobooks, VHS movies, fitness, westerns, sci-fi and romance
And where else will you find them at such low prices? Children’s books are 50 cents or less; adult, young adult books and most audiovisual, $1 or less; and better books, $2 and up.
The big, week-long event runs Tuesday through Oct. 28 at Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road.
Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday-Friday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, which is Half-price Day; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, Bag Day. Everything you can stuff in a bag costs only $1; $5 from the better books section.
One of the benefits of being a Friends member is the Friends Night Preview Sale from 5-8 p.m. Monday. Friends get first crack at the vast selection of buys. Friends members should make sure their dues are paid in advance; others may pay $5 at the door and join the Friends anytime that night.
New this year: “Trash the Books!” Friends member Becky Kheen will demonstrate how to turn an old book and old book pages into a new craft for the holidays, office or home. The free sessions are 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, and noon-2 p.m. Saturday in Remington’s lobby.
In case you’re wondering, all the books have been donated by individuals or weeded from the libraries and given to the Friends (through all the library drop-offs). It’s a recycling project that gives twice – readers get new books, and the sale proceeds support the services, free concerts, children’s programs and books offered throughout the Springfield-Greene County Library District.
