Some Kinds of Love: Stories, Author Talk with Steve Yates May 13 at Library Center

Author Steve Yates, a Springfield native and assistant director/marketing director at the University Press of Mississippi, Jackson, will talk about his new book, “Some Kinds of Love: Stories,” at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 13, in the Library Center auditorium, 4653 S. Campbell Ave. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.

From the Ozarks of the 1830s, when locals perceive doomsday in a historic starfall, to the near future at an all-night slow-pitch softball tournament when Armageddon looms yet again, these stories chart the dark side of love, the ties that bind families, and the sweet complications of human desire.

The fiction collection, published by the University of Massachusetts Press, was the winner of the Juniper Prize. Seven of the 12 stories are set in Springfield or the Missouri Ozarks.

Vickie Hicks is community relations director for the Springfield-Greene County Library District. She can be reached at vickieh@thelibrary.org.
