Please note: Sale of Exterior Home Building Items Postponed until May 11

The deconstruction of the house at 1911 E. Wayland Drive continues, but the planned yard sale of exterior building items has been postponed until 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, due to expected inclement weather. It had been planned for Saturday, May 4.

The Springfield-Greene County Library District, Ozarks Green Building Coalition and Habitat for Humanity are coordinating the deconstruction and recycling of the house to make way for the future Brentwood Branch Library renovation. The Library purchased the house in August 2012.

Several private businesses are also donating services for the demolition project.

Volunteers are continuing to disassemble the house to reduce, reuse and recycle every piece of interior and exterior material in this effort to responsibly recycle an entire house.

The first sale of interior items on April 27 netted Habitat and Ozarks Green Building about $1,600, which they will share. The Library will be responsible for hauling off any remaining materials that cannot be recycled.

Vickie Hicks is community relations director for the Springfield-Greene County Library District. She can be reached at vickieh@thelibrary.org.
