June Programs Feature Lessons in Science, Business Workshops and Area Celebrities
When the library was selected to house a NASA traveling exhibit, “Here. There. Everywhere.” in June, we decided to go all out with a series of related programs at the Library Center -- “Lessons in Physics for the Rest of Us.”
The exhibit features six panels that invite you to explore shadows, wind, electricity, atoms, waves and lensing – or bending of light. The project is supported by NASA under a grant, and was developed by the Chandra X-ray Center at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory.
And if this sounds like it’s getting a little too nerdy for words, the library will help explain how all those laws of physics apply to everyday life with the series of fun programs and hands-on activities June 10-26. Most are open to all ages. The Friends of the Library is sponsoring some sessions. See the full schedule in Bookends, or click on thelibrary.org/programs. You can also call 882-0714.
Two examples:
- Ted Keller presents Weather Around the World, 7 p.m. June 10.
- Science Nerd Night: Experimental Fun for the Whole Family! 6 p.m. June 26. Play and rediscover your inner nerd with hands-on activities. Our guides include staff from the Discovery Center, Missouri State University's College of Natural and Applied Science, 3M and City of Springfield Public Works Department.
