Check Out Enhanced Funding and Business Information Center July 22 at Library Center, DVD Dispenser at Park Central Branch and Civil War Turning Points

It isn’t always easy or affordable for entrepreneurs, nonprofits and small business owners to publicize their services, create brochures, research grants or find new markets for their products.

The library is ready to help. From 3-6 p.m. on July 22, Library Center staff will have an open house for the public to see and test several equipment and software enhancements in the Funding and Business Information Center. Refreshments will be provided and door prizes include a new iPad courtesy of Reference USA. (Must be 21 or older and present to win.) The upgrades were funded with a $10,000 grant from the Missouri State Library.

We consider it a one-stop shop for businesses and nonprofits because additions such as new dedicated computer work stations and an Apple MacBook Pro enhance our existing services. With the upgrades, you can now imagine, research, design, fund and market your next great idea.

Some examples: The Adobe Creative Suite software package will let you design a brochure the way you like, and you can print it on the new color LaserJet printer. A 27-inch digital wall monitor in the Grisham Room will allow a small group to Skype, or to collaborate and project their work on the screen.

Stop by the open house – or anytime – and a librarian will also show you how to access the electronic research databases to learn about your competitors, find new markets for your service or learn the habits of people you’re trying to attract to your business or nonprofit.

The Library also provides free access to lynda.com, an online learning company that offers an extensive library of instructional videos.

Have you seen the new DVD dispenser at Park Central Branch? Biblioteca will hold up to 2,000 DVDs, allowing the branch to expand your entertainment choices. Patrons browse DVD covers on a shelf, and use their library card to check out the disc from the dispenser. If this pilot project is successful, you may see machines at other branches.
