“Concrete steps and a brick fireplace are all that remain of the old frame farmhouse at Winoka, better known as the old Schweitzer place, after fire swept through the two-story structure early Sunday. The house, located just east of the old Highway 65 bridge at Lake Springfield, was engulfed in flames when Springfield Fire Unit 7 arrived at 2:25 a.m.

"The house and property, which at one time served as a hunter’s club, is jointly owned by Fred Schweitzer and his mother, Mrs. Fred Schweitzer, both of 637 South Fremont, and E. H. (Bud) Green, Route 1. Below [right] are a pool and bath house which are located on the grounds in the immediate vicinity of the house. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.”
