The Library Center has a copy of the Springfield Mo. 1887 City Ordinances that regulate the shooting of firecrackers and disposal of melon rinds and other fruit.
Springfield City Ordinances, 1887
Chapter 29 –On Misdemeanors
Section 18. Any person or persons who shall throw or cast upon any of the streets, public square or sidewalks of the city, or by any means whatsoever put any piece of melon refuse or rinds of melons, or parts of parings of other fruits upon such streets, sidewalks or square, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punished by fine not less than one dollar nor more than twenty-five dollars, with costs of suit.
Section 90. Whoever shall shoot fire crackers (sic) in their various forms on the public square or any street within the city except on the fourth of July and Christmas day, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not less than one nor more than ten dollars, with costs.
