Foreign Films
The library's film collection includes a wide variety of genres and subject matter.
One area of the collection that people might not be familiar with is the foreign films collection. The library acquires films produced or filmed in a variety of countries.
This collection is just as diverse as domestic films. There are horror, comedies, dramas, action, etc. There are films from Spain, Mexico, India, Iceland, China, Japan and many more. We acquire award winners from major festivals, but also get blockbusters from many countries. Two of the most requested areas in foreign language DVDs currently at our library are Korean films and tv shows, and Japanese anime.
While watching the films for storyline and production are entertaining on their own, many people also watch them to improve their language skills since many are in a language other than English. Or they view them to learn more about a slice of life in another culture or country. Personally I went through a film watching spree where I only watched films in Spanish and while I couldn't exactly speak the language afterwards, I could understand key words and phrases.
Here are a few of our recent additions.
