Friends of the Library Sale Hits $121,309.60

The Friends of the Springfield-Greene County Library District took in $121,309.60 in sales of used books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and games at its 2014 Spring Book Sale April 29-May 4 at Remington’s. That’s the fourth-highest sales level since the Friends began offering sales of donated materials in 1984. The record was set during the fall 2012 sale, with $125,779.01 in items sold.

The week-long event kicked off on April 28 with the Friends Night Preview Sale, a three-hour shopping blitz for Friends members and those wishing to join that night for $5.

Proceeds from this and other semi-annual Friends sales benefit the10 branches of the Library and the Mobile Library, providing books for preschoolers, author visits and music concerts, special program series and capital improvements. The Friends also funded the Mobile Library and pledged $300,000 toward the Brentwood Branch renovation.

“Once again, our hard-working Friends have sold well over $100,000 at their book sale,” said Library Executive Director Regina Greer Cooper. “I continue to be amazed at their success and am so very grateful for the support that they provide for our library services.”

Pat Myers, president of the Friends of the Library, expressed her thanks to the approximately 400 Friends volunteers who helped prepare for and run the sale, and all the individuals from across the region and other states who shopped at the spring sale. “And we are thankful for those people who donate the books, as well,” she said.

“We also appreciate all of our sponsors – Price Cutter, Krispy Kreme, Dominoes, and Missouri Neon Outdoor,” Myers added.

If you missed the sale, or didn't get everything you need, check out the Friends used book displays every day at the Between Friends Gift Shops at the Library Center and Library Station. And save this date: The big Friends Fall Book Sale is Oct. 21-26.
