Treasures Await You at Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Oct. 21-26

It’s that time again – the big Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale is coming Oct. 21-26 to Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road.

The Friends volunteers have priced and packed a whopping four tractor-trailer loads of books for all ages, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, vinyl records and games.

Convenient hours are Tuesday, Oct. 21, through Friday, Oct. 24, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 25, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Half-price Day; and Sunday, Oct. 26, 1-5 p.m., which is Bag Day. Pay $1 for everything you can jam into a sack, or $5 for a sack from the better books section. Bring cash or checks only.

Friends Night Preview Sale is again from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, when Friends members get to shop early. Or pay $5 at the door to shop and turn that into a Friends membership anytime that night if you wish.

New this year, says Friends sorting room manager Mike Marsh: “the mother lode” of jigsaw puzzles; more than 40 military history books in top condition, representing nearly every branch of service; and an extra-large quantity of library discards and donated brand new books, especially fiction.

Teachers and homeschool parents will be interested in the large selection of planning and activity books for elementary school – a generous teacher donated her entire collection for the fall sale. A retired teacher also donated 70 boxes of children’s books.

For fans of vintage westerns, the sale features more than 100 Zane Grey books, many with original dust jackets newly encased in plastic to preserve them; and hardbacks from the 30s, 40s and 50s, which will be in the Collectibles section in the Better Books area.

Have the urge to purge? You’re always welcome to donate books, CDs, DVDs, puzzles and games at any of the 10 library branches, and we offer donation receipts for tax purposes. With four trailers of books already priced and staged for the sale, donations this month likely will be stored for the spring 2015 sale.
