Book Sales Support Library Programs and More; Price Cutter Plus Book Stop Offers Pick-up and Drop-off Service

Thank you to everyone across the Ozarks who helped make the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale a tremendous success Oct. 21-26. The Friends celebrated $110,786.23 in sales of used books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records, games and more.

We’re always gratified to talk to shoppers who have driven from in several counties and states for the sales. Area school teachers and librarians tell us they stock up for their students. We visited with one loyal shopper, Dorothy, who at 102 years old makes the trip from Nixa to load up on great reads.

Property tax funding pays only a portion of the library district’s operating expenses. Your support through the Friends fall and spring sales helps pay for concerts, building improvements, author and scholar visits and many of the Summer Reading Programs that you and your family enjoy at the libraries.

Here are two upcoming events sponsored by the Friends:

Do you live or work on the Springfield’s east side and can’t get to a library branch as often as you’d like? Try the library’s pick-up and drop-off service at the Price Cutter Plus book drop at the 3260 E. Battlefield Road store.

It’s easy. Find and order a book, CD or other material from thelibrary.org/catalog using your library card and indicate where you’d like to pick it up – click “Price Cutter.” Library staff checks out the book, inserts a due-date slip and we deliver it to Price Cutter. You pick up the book at the customer service window using your ID. It’s that easy.
