Locate Tax Forms and Information Online
If you are one of the many taxpayers who rely on getting printed IRS instruction booklets or schedules from the public libraries, a recent IRS change will affect you. The Springfield-Greene County Libraries are trying to minimize the headaches.
The library district, like all public libraries, no longer will receive instruction booklets or schedules from the IRS for distribution to the public. The libraries will receive only forms 1040EZ, 1040A and 1040.
All IRS forms, schedules and instruction booklets are available to be printed directly from the IRS website:http://apps.irs.gov/app/picklist/list/formsPublications.html.
If you or someone you know has Internet service and a printer, we recommend you print the forms and other necessary materials directly from that IRS website. The Springfield IRS office said it expects to get tax forms and instruction books in the coming weeks. The address is 2937 S. Claremont Ave., Building A. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Barring that option, you can request that forms be mailed directly to your home by calling 1-800-829-3676, or filling out the online form at
http://www.irs.gov/uac/Forms-and-Publications-by-U.S.-Mail. Library staff members are happy to help you use the online order form. Also, you may always print any forms from library public computers for 10 cents per page.
In addition, the Missouri Department of Revenue stopped providing libraries with state forms several years ago and, as of this year, the Missouri tax assistance offices are closed.
State forms can be printed directly from the Missouri Department of Revenue website at http://dor.mo.gov/forms/index.php?category=3. We encourage patrons to print forms from home. If that isn’t possible, library staff can print forms for them for 10 cents per page. Patrons can also request that the Missouri Department of Revenue mail forms directly to their homes by calling 1-800-877-6881.
An explanation of resources, Web addresses and numbers are detailed in a library website article, Income Tax Resources, at thelibrary.org/taxes. As always, library staff members are eager to help you find the resources you need, at tax time or any other time of the year.
