Young adult literature, especially fiction has seen an increase in readership among adults in the past years. In 2012, a study entitled Understanding the Children’s Book Consumer in the Digital Age reported that 55% of buyers of Young Adult titles are 18 and older. The biggest age group is 30-44. Numbers published recently see a continued increase in sales of childrens and young adult titles.
Whether the readers are new to young adult literature, or have just continued to read titles even though they no longer fall in the age range, there are lots of characters, topics and styles of writing in young adult titles to keep them reading. If you haven't read young adult literature there is no shortage of authors or titles to start your reading. The shelves have a wide variety, or librarians would be glad to get you started.
