Gravestone Preservation Workshop

  Christian County, Missouri

Saturday, July 25, 2009.  Jon Appell, gravestone conservator, will conduct a gravestone preservation workshop at the historic Squibb Cemetery.

Dr. C. Mark Rose of Richmond, Missouri, and Rose Marie Jones of Willard, Missouri, will host a one-day, hands-on workshop in gravestone preservation. Mr. Jonathan Appell, monumental mason from Connecticut, will demonstrate how to repair old gravestones, slow or reverse weather-related deterioration and stabilize stones which have begun to lose their integrity. For more information, visit Gravestone Preservation.com.

The one-day workshop begins at 9 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m. or when Knox County, Tennessee finished.  The workshop will be held at Squibb Cemetery 6 miles west of Springfield, Mo.  Take Highway 266 (Old Route 66) west to Yeakley Chapel.  Turn north [right] on Farm Road 65 to farm road 132, then turn west [left] to farm road 63. Turn north [right] to the cemetery -- watch for signs.  A $20 donation or more is suggested.  Any money over the amount of costs will be donated to the Squibb Cemetery.  Photographing and taping is allowed.  Bring lawn chairs, umbrellas, a cooler with your lunch and beverages and gloves for hands-on training.  Toilet facilities will be available but there will be no running water.

If you are interested in attending the workshop or have any questions, please call Rose Jones 417-833-2351 or email r.m.jones61@gmail.com.
