Royals Win World Series

 Greg Holland

The Kansas City Royals celebrated their first World Series championship in 30 years on November 1, 2015.  A 7-2 victory in Game 5 over the New York Mets gave the long struggling franchise and its fans memories that will last a lifetime.  Their victory illustrated how a small market team could compete against the large payrolls so common in Major League Baseball. Rather than making blockbuster trades for free agents, the Royals slowly developed talented players in their farm system.

Alex GordonMany of the stars on the World Series roster played at Hammons Field with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.  Royal’s third baseman Mike Moustakas hit a grand slam at Hammons Field in 2010, the year he was named the Most Valuable Player in the Texas League.  Eric Hosmer’s clutch base running tied Game 5 in the 9th inning.  On September 12, 2010, Hosmer hit a pair of home runs at Hammons Field that helped end the Springfield Cardinals playoff hopes.  Royals left fielder Alex Gordon played at Hammons Field in 2006, and Greg Holland, Kansas City’s closer in the 2014 World Series, played for the Naturals in 2009.

The recently released Mlb 2015 World Series Collector's Edition DVD is now available in the catalog.
