Resources at Springfield-Greene County Libraries
- Free Wi-Fi
All Springfield-Greene County Library branches are equipped with free high-speed wireless Internet access. If you have a Wi-Fi enabled laptop, bring it to the Library for use anywhere in our comfortable, quiet surroundings and enjoy the convenience of having our expert staff and other research materials a step away. There's no port to connect to, no fee and no wait for a Library computer station to come available.
Improve your career and personal skills with free computer and Internet classes at the Edge Community Technology Center located at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library. Classes are availble to learn Microsoft Office Programs, Photoshop 7.0, or WebSite Design. For more information or to register, call 837-5011.
- Private Study Rooms
For those last minute cram sessions, private study rooms are available at the Library Center and the Library Station branches. Call the Library Center at 882-0714 or the Library Station at 865-1340 for availability.
- Premium Research Databases
The library has state-of-the-art reference technology. The following databases are a small sampling of resources available.
Academic OneFile* provides millions of authoritative and comprehensive articles available in both PDF and HTML full-text. Updated daily.
Gale Virtual Reference Library* is a collection of printed reference resources that you can search online. The collection covers business, science, history and social issues.
Learning Express Library* is an online resource for academic and employment test preparation. Some practice tests include GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and the MCAT.
The Local History and Genealogy Departments at the Library Center and the Library Station provide research materials including microfilm of Missouri 1830-1930 census information, Missouri civil war materials, Missouri government documents, microfilm of various newspapers, and more.
Special Collections in Springfield
Drury University's F.W. Olin Library Special Collections and Archives consists of the Rare Book Room, collections such as the Robert H. and Sally A. Gibbons Collection on the Kennedy Assassination, and Drury University Archives. The library also maintains the Education Curriculum collection. These materials are in library use only. The John K. and Ruth Hulston Civil War Research Library located at Wilson's Creek National Battlefield currently contains approximately 6,500 volumes concentrating on the Civil War period and the Civil War in the Trans-Mississippi Theater. All of the library's volumes are non-circulating, but are available for use by serious scholars. Phone (417) 732-2662.
The Missouri State Libraries Special Collections and University Archives provides a plethora of resources including the Center for Ozarks Studies, Rare Books, the Harry E. Appleby Veterans Oral History Project, and more. Phone (417) 836-5428.
The Springfield Art Museum's Reference Library has thousands of books and journals related to the visual arts available for research and study. The museum regularly subscribes to 15 periodicals as well as the Art Index. The library is open to the public during regular business hours and is a free public wifi hotspot ; its holdings are non-circulating. Phone (417) 837-5700.
Van K. Smith Community Health Library serves patients, family members and members of the community in southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas. The Community Health Library's services and resources are directed toward the health consumer and general public to enable them to make informed health decisions and become active participants in their health care and total well being.
