Special Events and Fundraisers Planned as Brentwood Branch Renovation Approaches

Brentwood Branch LibraryYou don’t see many people getting all misty-eyed when they talk about their “first” library, but it happens when you mention “Brentwood Branch” to people living all over Greene County.

They’ll go on about how Mom or Dad took them every week in the 70s for story time, and about the librarian who always greeted them by their first name. Many who have returned to the neighborhood are carrying on the tradition with their own children.

We hear these stories as the library continues the $2.5 million capital campaign to overhaul the 1971 structure and give that cranky, original boiler the boot. The Foundation has raised $1,515,978.21 so far, and plans are falling into place.

The Brentwood Branch will close at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 16. Any public meetings and library programs scheduled there through April 30 will be held in the community room. Soon, the library will announce the temporary location where we will provide limited service during the six to nine months of renovation at the Brentwood Branch.

Before the cranes move in, you’ll have some chances to bid farewell to the old Brentwood on April 23. We’re planning a furniture sale of many pieces we won’t reuse, an open house for all ages and an evening fundraiser for adults – Hard Hats and Highballs.

Visit Brentwood sooner for a Murder in the Stacks Jan. 30.

Tickets are still available for this after-hours, interactive murder mystery game with a literary twist. The fundraiser for the ReNew Brentwood campaign is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and available at Brentwood or by calling 883-1974. The event is recommended for adults.

The story: You’re at a celebration to reopen the Brentwood Branch Library, made possible by the contributions of Springfield’s most notorious (and totally loaded) businessman, Benjamin E. Factor. Moments before the celebration begins, Factor is found murdered in the library.

Whodunit? The mousy Reference Librarian, the nosy Journalist, the greedy Heiress… or someone else? Join us and help solve this heinous crime.
