Star Trek Audiobooks Available from Hoopla; Edge Mobile Class Provides Safety Tips for Digital World

Star Trek Enterprise: The First AdventureStar Trek fans will be thrilled to know this, in Star Trek’s 50th anniversary year: You can relive the action of the Enterprise’s original missions through more than 50 Star Trek audiobooks narrated by William Shatner, George Takei, Leonard Nimoy and more.

The audiobooks are the newest additions to Hoopla, the online library lending service you can use with your library card. Take it back to the beginning! George Takei and Leonard Nimoy narrate as James T. Kirk embarks on the Enterprise’s very first mission in “Enterprise, the First Adventure.” Or hear “Captain’s Glory” when, with the civil war on Romulus averted, Captain Kirk is finally free to seek out the truth behind the death of his oldest and closest friend.

Just go to thelibrary.org/digital and click on the blue Hoopla logo. To get started, create an account with your library card number. Click “Browse,” find a title, click “Borrow” and listen wherever you are.

New to Hoopla? You can borrow more than 300,000 movies, e-books, TV episodes, audiobooks and music albums right from a smartphone, tablet or web browser – anywhere there’s an Internet connection. There’s no monthly subscription fee. There’s no waiting – all the content is always available – and no late fees! After the checkout period expires, the item goes away. Videos check out for 72 hours; music, one week; audiobooks three weeks and checkout limits are 12 titles maximum per month, per person.

If you own or use a computer, cell phone or other electronic device, practicing digital security should be right up there with locking the front door and guarding our credit cards.

The next Edge Mobile Class addresses that in “Staying Safe & Secure in a Digital World.” The adult class is from 10 a.m.-noon on Friday, July 22, at the Dan Kinney Family Center, 2701 S. Blackman Road. You’ll learn about how to protect yourself while you’re on the Internet, learn about anti-virus programs and how to keep your personal information safe. For details call 837-5011.
