Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Oct. 26-30

It’s almost time to stock up on great holiday gifts for the whole family, enrich your school or home library and snag some delicious reads for yourself. The huge annual Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale returns Oct. 26-30 in the spacious E*Plex on the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, 3001 N. Grant Ave.

After the sale moved to the E*Plex for the Spring Book Sale in April, shoppers raved about the roomier aisles, bigger selection of books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, vinyl records and games; and the streamlined checkout. There’s plenty of free parking, and visitors can enter through Gate 4 off Norton Road.

Admission is free from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, Oct. 26-29; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30. Enjoy Half-Price Day on Saturday and Bag Day on Sunday, when all the goodies you can stuff in a sack cost $1, or $5 from the “better books” side.

Everyone loves the Friends Night Preview Sale, 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25. Friends with membership cards get in free. Or pay $5 that night at the door for an annual membership and get in free that night and at the spring 2017 sale. Membership also gives you a 10 percent discount at the Between Friends Gift Shops.

Your cash goes farther than in retail stores at the Friends sales – and there’s no tax. Imagine paying only 25 cents to $1 for new, $8 paperbacks; and only $2 for like-new best-seller hardbacks. Adult, young adult, children’s books and most audiovisual items are priced at only $1 or less. Better books are $2 and up. There’s entertainment for all ages and interests, from history to sci-fi; mystery to romance; crafts to religion. Friends can accept cash or check only.

Each sale holds unexpected treasures, as this one does: large history and military collections, especially on Napoleon and the Napoleonic Wars; the Civil War and World War I. And the array of gift-worthy coffee table books, cookbooks, gardening guides and inspirational books make thoughtful gifts for the holidays.
