Finding Book Reviews
When looking for book reviews, it is useful to know the author's name, book's complete title and the publication year of the book. The publication year is crucial to finding published book reviews. Books are usually reviewed within 12-24 months of publication, but some nonfiction books may not be reviewed until several years after the publication date. Check inside the book itself for the publication date. In many cases, the Library’s catalog can also give you this information.
Once you know the book’s author, title and publication date, it's time to decide where to look.
- Published after 1990: Electronic databases are especially good. GeneralOneFile* and New York Times* are searchable by title, author or keyword.
- Published before 1983: Print resources may be your best solution. Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature is a reliable source available in the Library.
