Catch Cartoonist Roz Chast Oct. 20 at Springfield Art Museum; Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Oct. 26-30 at E*Plex; Fall Harvest Cooking Demo Oct. 22 at Midtown Carnegie Branch

She’s a cartoonist with an edge and a witty message for us. That’s Roz Chast, who will make a rare visit to Springfield at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Springfield Art Museum as part of the library’s groundbreaking series “Death & Dying: Conversations on End-of-Life Matters.”

Groundbreaking? Yes. As our guest speakers so far have noted, it’s rare that a library district partners with a hospice foundation to host a series with nationally known authors and celebrities to start the conversation about end-of-life issues we all will face.

Chast, who has written more than a dozen books including “Cant’ We Talk about Something More Pleasant?” cartoons her way through the realities of getting old in America and dealing tenderly with aging parents.

She will be available for a Q&A session and her books will be available for purchase and signing at the event. You can see the full series schedule at thelibrary.org/death.
