Holiday Open House Events Dec. 3 Offer Fun for the Whole Family

Looking for a free holiday event to share with the children in your family? Visit one of the Holiday Open House events Saturday, Dec. 3, at six city and county library branches. Choose from a tropical luau theme, a hoedown or a front-row seat for a city Christmas parade.

The open houses coincide with the branches’ Holiday Store for kids that morning. The stores are set up inside the library so children can shop for affordable gifts for family and friends. Library volunteers will be available to help children shop for treats for everyone on the gift list. Children through age 18 can shop for gifts priced just right for kids – 25 cents to $6. Call the individual branch for store hours.

At the Ash Grove Branch from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., ring in the holiday season with activities, refreshments, and Christmas movies “How the Grinch Stole Christmas," “White Christmas” and “The Santa Clause.” The Ash Grove Christmas parade will pass right in front of the library. Call 751-2933.

The Library Center is throwing a Holiday Luau from 10 a.m.-noon in the auditorium, with tropical crafts, activities and games. Santa will make a special appearance from 11 a.m.-noon. Call 882-0714.

It’s a Holiday Hoedown at the Republic Branch from 10 a.m.-noon, with hoedown-themed make-and-take crafts and refreshments. Call 732-7284.

The Holiday Open House at the Midtown Carnegie Branch from 10 a.m.-noon in the Teen Room will feature holiday stories, treats and crafts. We’ll also have free photos with Santa Claus from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Call 862-0135.

Drop by the Library Station from 10 a.m.-noon for holiday crafts, snacks, games and activities for the whole family. Santa Claus will make a visit from 11 a.m.-noon to hear all of your holiday wishes, so bring your camera. Call 865-1340.

Everyone at the Willard Branch Library will get in the spirit from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. making snowman ornaments and other crafts, drinking hot cocoa and watching "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "The Muppet Christmas Carol." Call 742-4258.
