October Festivals in the Ozarks

Kick off the month with the Missouri Literary Festival featuring readings, presentations and workshops with over 40 local authors. One ticket will get you into all three days of this event running Friday, October 2nd through Sunday, October 4th.

Pumpkin lovers should check out Republic Pumpkindaze for live music, a pet parade and a Pumpkin' Chunkin' Contest. This all day event begins at 8:00 am on Saturday, October 3rd.

The third annual Taste of Springfield will be held Saturday, October 3rd. This festival includes Iron Chef cooking competitions, live cake decorating and food sampling from 12:00 to 4:00 pm.

Art in the Park, a festival presented by local artists, will feature fine arts and crafts including painting, photography, jewelry, glass pottery, sculpture, and more. Stop by Sequiota Park in Springfield onSaturday, October 10th and Sunday, October 11th.

Take a trip to the past by visiting Nathan Boone Homestead Days in Ash Grove on Saturday, October 17th and Sunday, October 18th. Enjoy demonstrations of 19th century crafts or visit living history camps representing Boone’s various careers. Listen to live performances of traditional music.

Missouri State University is sponsoring a Foreign Film Festival with events on Thursday evenings throughout the month of October. Check out Meia-noite, a Brazilian drama directed by Walter Salles on October 8th. Enjoy Spanish Film Night on October 22nd. Watch Amores Possiveis, a Brazilian romantic comedy on October 29th. All shows are free to the public.
