'Get Your Read On' and More at Missouri Literary Festival October 2-4
Have you purchased your tickets to attend the inaugural Missouri Literary Festival yet? If not, there’s still plenty of time to get them for you and a friend or the entire family to an event unlike any other in Springfield. For only $5 per person, ages 11 and up, can gain access to three days of literature, music and fun at several downtown locations, including Hammons Field, the center of the festival.
A celebration of the written word and those whose job, hobby or skill it is to entertain and inform with words, the Missouri Literary Festival, October 2-4, is also a fundraiser to benefit those organizations who work to promote literacy and the arts in Springfield.
Your $5 admission and a portion of other proceeds raised from vendors at the event will benefit the Springfield Regional Arts Council, Ozarks Literacy Council, Family Literacy Centers of Springfield, the Springfield Public Schools Title I Program and Writers Hall of Fame of America scholarship program.
“It’s been proven that reading is an essential skill to succeed in school and life,” said Library Center Branch Manager Lorraine Sandstrom, festival board member. “And these organizations are vital to that process. Anything that helps to create an informed citizenship—that’s what reading is all about.”
There will be plenty of children’s and young adult activities, along with many wonderful literary opportunities, including hearing United States Poet Laureate Billy Collins read from his work at 10 a.m. on Saturday [October 3]. And fans of the inspirational genre won’t want to miss New York Times Bestselling author Richard Paul Evans, who wrote “The Gift” and “The Christmas Box,” who will sell and autograph advance copies of his latest book on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
