Summer Reading Programs for Tots, Kids, Teens and Adults Begin May 20

We’re sending stress to the back seat this summer and making time for relaxing reading and great entertainment during the annual Summer Reading Program May 20-Aug. 12. Every age group can join, and everyone has a chance to earn reading incentives and end-of-summer prizes.

This year’s theme is Build a Better World, and programs throughout the summer are geared to inspire and entertain you. Beginning May 20, parents of tiny tots and children 19 months to fifth grade; as well as teens and adults can sign up at thelibrary.org/buildabetterworld. Paper registrations are available in each branch and Mobile Library.

Don’t miss the May 20 kick-off events for families – including a concert in the Fair Grove City Park – at many of the library branches. Visit thelibrary.org/programs for information about kick-off events and other programs scheduled this summer.

Tiny tots benefit from the Summer Reading Program as much as older kids do. Families can participate in the program online or with a paper activity game board. Visit the website, register and record your reading and activities. Complete all the spaces on the game board to receive a free book, a Fresh Start Fine Waiver Card and a Summer Youth Passport. Prizes can be picked up beginning May 27.

Children from 19 months to fifth grade and teens age 12-18 can also pick up an official game board, read and complete the activities to win a book, a Fine Waiver Card and a Youth Summer Passport offering free snacks and pool admission upon completing your first game board. You can begin picking up prizes May 27. Continue reading to earn entries into the end-of-summer drawing for additional prizes. Read the Build a Better World FAQ for more information about Tiny Tots, Kids and Teens Summer Reading Programs.

Adults who register, log books and post reviews receive a small gift after completing five books. Every book you log, and each review you submit counts as an entry in the August 14 prize drawings. Two grand prize winners will receive a Kindle Fire, and one winner at each library branch will win a gift basket. Ask for an adult activity sheet, too, to earn extra entries into the prize drawings.
