Exhibit and Programs Help Kids, Teens and Adults "Explore Space"

We’ve been exploring space this summer through the interactive, traveling exhibit at the Library Center and programs for all ages, with some fun results.

When we asked kids visiting the “Explore Space” exhibit to tell us on a sticky note “What would you pack for a trip to Mars?” they wrote:

Kids are having a blast at the programs and hands-on activities. See what’s coming up at thelibrary.org/explorespace, or in Bookends.

The upcoming days also feature some eye-opening programs for adults.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, July 13, in Library Center meeting room A, NASA Solar System Ambassador Marteen Nolan will explore NASA’s recent discovery of the first known system of seven Earth-size planets around a single star. Any of these planets could have liquid water and possibly be conducive to life. Nolan will discuss the ramification for space exploration and Earth’s inhabitants. For more information call 882-0714.

From 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, in the Library Center, register now and join us for an adults-only trip inside the mobile StarLab planetarium. You’ll hear about the Greek and Roman myths whose origins are rooted in the stars. A presenter will lead groups into the StarLab every 25 minutes. Free eclipse glasses will be available, two pair per person while supplies last. For more information or to register call 882-0714.

Save the date: At 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, in the Library Center auditorium, hear “Missouri's Meteorite Impact Structures: Three Strikes and a Hypothesis is Out?”

Weaubleau, Decaturville and Crooked Creek are meteorite impact structures that are aligned across the Missouri Ozarks. Some investigators have suggested that they resulted from serial impacts comparable to the ShoemakerLevy 9 cometary impacts on Jupiter in 1994. Learn about meteorite impact structures and more from Dr. Kevin Evans, geology professor at Missouri State University.

The Explore Space exhibit and more programs for all ages continue through Aug. 4.
