Special Events for Special Needs Families this Fall at the Library Center

Presented in partnership with Include Ozarks, this series of workshops targets topics of interest to families of children with special needs while providing parents and caregivers a place to learn, grow and advocate for their children or loved ones. Library staff will be there to share materials and services about what the Library has to offer. These events take place at the Library Center and child care will be provided. Meet the Library Night
Friday, September 15, 7 p.m. for all ages in the Story Hour Room. Meet the library in a sensory-safe environment. We'll lead small groups of families with children with special needs on a brief but detailed tour of the Library Center Children's Department, highlighting all the services we have to offer families along the way. Registration starts September 1.

Achieving Balance with a Special Needs Child
Saturday, September 16, 9-11 a.m. in the auditorium. Dr. James Peterson will provide parents with an understanding of how to get their child's nervous system balanced and healthy to enhance and improve the child's function and development, no matter the disorder. Registration starts September 1.

Self-Care for Parents of Special Needs Children
Saturday, October 21, 9-11 a.m. in the auditorium. Family psychologist Dr. Tiffany Ruffin discusses the importance of self-care for parents of special needs children. Her goal is for parents to feel empowered, understood and accepted. Registration starts October 1.

Picky Eaters and Problem Feeders
Saturday, November 18, 9-11 a.m. in the auditorium. Are mealtimes and snacks with your child a struggle? Speech-language pathologist Melanie Stinnett shares what defines a picky eater versus a problem feeder, and provides options for potential treatment. Registration starts November 1.
