El Chupacabra

Chupacabra, which in Spanish means "goat sucker", is a creature thought to suck the blood out of farm animals.

In 1995, the beast was sighted in Puerto Rico, the center for Chupacabra activity, and accused of killing and draining the blood of hundreds of farm animals.  Eyewitness accounts described the animal as having a "reptilian body, oval head, bulging red eyes, fanged teeth and long, darting tongue, " according to a report at the time in the daily San Juan Star

That same description has weathered decades of scrutiny.  First appearing in the late 1960s with attacks picking up markedly in the mid-1990s, leading Loren Coleman, America's leading cryptozoologist, to term the animal "the single most notable cryptozoological phenomenon of the past decade."  Coleman is the author of Cryptozoology A to Z.
