Classical Music in Springfield and Holiday Concerts

Springfield is home to three orchestras, an opera, and a plethora of thriving university music departments that provide quality classical music entertainment. These and other organizations allow the community the opportunity to be a part of live performances of great orchestral masterworks, chamber music and solo repertoire.

The following is a sampling of the local professional and educational organizations.

 

Local Christmas Concerts with free or donation-based admission:

Christmas Tuba and Euphonium Playalong
This first annual event sponsored by the Missouri State University Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble is to get individuals together to play Christmas music at the Creamery Arts Center. Anyone is welcome to join, but you will need to bring a music stand. The ensemble will provide a variety of easy Christmas music arrangements. Santa hats and other decorations on your instrument are welcome.

Evangel’s annual Christmas concert to benefit Ozarks Food Harvest 
The 85-minute program will include performances by Evangel University’s Symphonic Orchestra, Chorale and Chorus, Jazz Band, and Madrigal Singers. The New Covenant Academy Choir, under the direction of alumna Dr. Vicki Wisdom, will also be performing.

This concert featuring four grand pianos along with a full choir and orchestra is being held at Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

The Music Department presents this annual concert, featuring the Missouri State Bands and Choirs in the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.

Drury's Annual Christmas Vespers
The concert will include a reading of a Christmas narrative to celebrate the season with musical interjections along the way performed by the Drury Singers and Chamber Choir. Christmas Vespers lasts about an hour and includes the traditional Christmas carols that involve audience participation. Christmas Vespers has become a local favorite. It is suggested that people arrive early because the hall tends to fill up quickly. Following the performance there will be a reception in the chapel lounge Admission is free.

This concert by the Missouri State University Community Band to benefit the Pregnancy Care Center is being held at the Glendale Christian Church.
