Kansas City Celebrates

With a rich history in the arts, one of the major museums of Missouri is celebrating a milestone. Kansas City proudly remembers the December 11, 1933 opening of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The museum will feature events, programs and exhibits celebrating its 75th anniversary.

The Nelson-Atkins has listed two exhibits of special interest to Springfield residents:

"Hide and Seek: Picturing Childhood" is on display through February 21, 2010,  and includes the work of Springfield photographer Julie Blackmon.

An upcoming exhibit will feature the work of 20th century photographer Edward Steichen, known for his high fashion and celebrity subjects. Steichen's first wife, Clara, was born in Springfield.

The Library has books by Steichen under Steichen, Edward in the author search and books about him under Steichen, Edward in the subject search.

For local newspaper listings on Edward or Clara Steichen, enter a subject search for Steichen in The Ozarks News and Historical Index .
